Top 4 reasons not to start a Minecraft server

Jun 25, 2015 | 11 Comments

All the time I see people start a Minecraft server and with a lot of reasons to start one, very rarely do you hear of the reasons NOT to start one. Now before we begin, I’m not saying you shouldn’t start one, but these are legit reasons to think about not starting one.

1. People act differently. When your a normal guy playing Minecraft, your treated normally, when you start a server people treat your differently so they can get free/staff ranks, some owners like this, but in all honesty its annoying after a while of running your server…

2. Cost of Running a server. When your running a server, you will either need to host on your on PC IF you have a great internet connection, or you will have to pay so much to a host for your server, although this isn’t huge, its still a concern, as you will have to pay every month.

3. Takes time, for those of you that have lots of time, this isn’t a problem. But for me, the longer I ran my server, the less time I had for it… overall, if you have time to setup all your plugins and getting players, then this isn’t a concern.

4. Deal with “Them”. When you run a Minecraft server you run into “Them” what I mean by that is, the immature group. They will do anything to get OP, Troll you, Grief you or get free ranks. Not only that, but I’ve had it happen plenty of times where this happens. here is the basic conversion that happens

“YAY, I donated, but it didn’t show up?!?”
You go and check
“no, no you didn’t donate, I just checked it for you”
“o no, my Mom is gonna be so angry :'(”
“maybe you didn’t finalize the payment”
“No, I did, it said I did, my mom is going to ground me 🙁 🙁 :(”

These conversions can happen with your most loyal members, because of all the Youtubers doing this sort of thing… and the worst part, normally they will keep bothering you about it until they are banned or quit…

I hope you enjoyed this article, but please don’t be to discouraged, just know what your getting into before hand!

Yea, we had a huge problem with hackers on my friends server. The best thing to do is to whitelist your friends or people you trust and run a private server.
